United Way of Kosciusko County:

Is governed by a Board of 21 local community representatives

Is qualified as a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization
United Way is tax-exempt because we do not receive any profit. 92% of money raised by United Way annual fund drive is contributed to fund 51 programs within 25 agencies to provide assistance for the entire Kosciusko County.

Uses eight cents of each pledged dollar for operating the local United Way
United Way currently uses eight cents of each pledged dollar for operating cost of the local office and campaign. United Way of Kosciusko County has a goal of 100% of all donors’ gifts to go to the programs. This will be achieved by wise investment of the Endowment fund (In 1972, United Way was named as the largest beneficiary in the will of Ross McNamara later named the Endowment Fund)

Community Impact

Improving lives by mobilizing communities to create sustained changes in community conditions using LifeQuest assessment to determine needs and priorities in Kosciusko County.

Vision Councils monitor the needs and activity of all agencies
United Way has four Vision Councils which are focused on: Youth Development; Family/Community Wellness; Emergency Services and Self-Sufficiency. Each Vision Council has United Way board members, community members, and issue-experts serving on them. These team members evaluate program details to assure United Way investors their gifts are being used effectively and efficiently in Kosciusko County. After the program reviews, the Vision Councils present their funding recommendations to the Community Impact committee, then to the United Way Board, who makes the final funding decisions.

Guarantees donors that dollars are used in Kosciusko County
When most people donate to any nonprofit organization, they want to see what their money has achieved. That is why United Way of Kosciusko County uses the money only in this county, unless you the donor ask that the donation go to another United Way. It is important that you know that your donation will help your neighbor.

Seeks community help once a year
Many charity organizations will ask for money three to four times per year, which become hard on the donors to give that much that often. This is why United Way will only ask the community to help each other once a year.

Partners with communities to keep them safe place we want to live
United Way partners with many community groups within our county to provide ideas, options, and funding to insure a united goal of keeping communities safe and a better place in which we live, work and play.
